Corrupt Court
A downloadable game for Windows
Suddenly a king ... and the daggers are waiting.
Do not be fooled by the routine: You read reports in your study, or letters from the populace. Or you hold court, where you assign nobles to tasks ... well, you consider it a task which should be fulfilled. The courtier very well may consider it an opportunity to get rich. Or an opportunity to do as little as possible. Or both at the same time. Or they may think of replacing you.
As much as you want to do all the things yourself, you cannot by custom and law. You have to rely on the various courtiers to run the kingdom.
As the courtiers very often do not have the qualities you want and need, carefully choosing the right noble for each post becomes paramount. You need to talk to them, get the opinion of their peers, and carefully study the reports for signs of thievery. Very, very carefully. Maybe, just maybe this allows you to make fitting assignements.
Of course, once you have somewhat able and somewhat honest courtiers in the posts, you might want to keep them. Hint: High salary will be appreciated, while insults will not.
With good officials you may be confident you can deal with bandit outbreaks. Or revolts by dissatisfied courtiers. Or war with other kingdoms. You can be as confident as much as you trust your officials...
